Preventive healthcare is a key approach to improve health of people and reduce healthcare burden. Higher expenditure of treatment result when problems are diagnosed late. This impacts the poor strongly as they are forced to spend their savings or fall into debt to pay for treatments.
In order to identify health issues at their inception, and enable early interventions, HBS Mobile Clinic was initiated in January 2020, in collaboration with various field NGO partners such as The Lifeline Foundation, Project Smile, Aasra, Al-Ansaar, HRS etc. The fully equipped clinic-on-wheels van goes to fixed locations across slums of Bengaluru on a monthly schedule.
The mobile clinic focuses on testing, detection and treatment for illnesses along with provision of medicines free of charge. The field NGO partners provide food & refreshments, mobilization of patients, marketing & communication about the camp, logistics support during the camp and medicines for free distribution etc. This initiative has already helped more than 1,000 patients in the first 2 months of operation of Feb-Mar 2020.
